"The Cauliflower Jig" is an Irish jig in D Dorian (Stanford/Petrie) or
D Major (Shields/Goodman). The parts are played AB (Stanford/Petrie) or
AABB (Shields/Goodman).
The earliest appearance of the tune is in Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman's
mid-19th century manuscripts. Goodman (1828-1896) was a uilleann piper and an Irish
speaker who collected locally in County Cork and elsewhere in Munster.
It was printed in Shields/Goodman's Tunes of the Munster Pipers (1998) and
Stanford/Petrie's Complete Collection (1905).
It was recorded by Mick O’Brien, Emer Mayock and Aoife Ní Bhriain on
Tunes from the Goodman Manuscripts (2013),
Robert Ryan and Eileen Gannon on Down the Rocky Road (2021),
James Kelly on Melodic Journeys (2004),
Leonard Barry on New Road (2013) and
Rattle the Knee on Paving and Crigging (2017).
